Greys Micro Quilt Jacket
The Greys Micro Quilt Jacket offers all the benefits of traditional down jackets at a very affordable price point. From a design point of view, it is a massive upgrade to the successful Strata jacket, featuring a slightly more fitted look, hood, and ventilation panels on each side. It is a smart jacket which allows the angler to be comfortable and warm in comparison to heavier, insulated jackets. It is available in either Petrol or Carbon.
Externally, the Micro Quilt Jacket features a DWR outer layer. DWR or 'Durable Water Repellant' material is not waterproof but does reduce condensation forming. This aides breathability so less moisture reaches your skin, and you don't get refrigerated as a consequence. DWR is a coating that is applied to a piece of fabric after a laminate or membrane has been implemented to form a protective wall. This allows water droplets to form, however, it's not waterproof enough to prevent saturation. Therefore, as a warm, light, shower-proof, insulating jacket, it is exceptionally functional and highly breathable.
Ergonomically, this jacket is not constricting and is comfortable to wear. This gives you, the angler, the ability to move around the bank or boat with total freedom. The underarms are made of a stretchy, windproof, synthetic fibre which prevents the body from overheating on windy days, but protection in the outer arms will shield you on those colder days. There are also velcro straps on the sleeves to increase heat retention even further.
Inside the DWR layer is filled with Thinsulate material. Thinsulate is much thinner than polyester and lighter than down and offers excellent insulating properties, making it the ideal material for fishing jackets. It is not bulky therefore reduces weight but offers exceptional thermal efficiency. Thinsulate microfibres trap air molecules between you and the outer environment. They are also more delicate than other synthetic materials, so they catch more air in less space.
Proper insulation can make the difference between a cold, miserable day on the water and a comfortable, productive and enjoyable day. Worn in combination with other layers, including a base layer and fleece layer, the Micro Quilt Jacket offers optimal thermoregulation and moisture wicking. However, worn with minimal layering, it is also a comfortable jacket that can take the edge off a cool breeze. Therefore it is also suitable as a general wear, casual, insulated jacket. Combine those benefits with hard wearing zips, adjustable hood, and deep front pockets, and you can confidently challenge the harshest climates.
