Hardy say: The Hardy's fly reel "St. George" is a reel steeped in history. This reel, named after St. George, the patron saint of England, was released in 1911 as part of Hardy's Perfect Reel series of fly reels. Early models were medium to large sizes, but in the 1920s the 3" size became popular, followed by the 2 9/16" "St. George Junior" in 1928.
This series was sold until 1982, with varying designs and finishes. Production numbers were lower than other Perfect Series reels, especially for smaller trout sizes. The reason for this may be that the St. George series was more expensive than its Perfect series counterpart.
Today, a 3" or St. George Jr. reel in good condition is a treasure to anglers and collectors. St. George has differentiated Hardy fly reels from other products for over 100 years. It has everything you've ever wanted: solid construction, perfect performance, buttery-smooth adjustable click check (drag), classic looks, and the pride of owning it.
The new St. George reel is also made at the Hardy factory in Alnwick, UK. The only difference from the earlier model is that it uses bar stock aluminium instead of the older, less durable cast aluminium. All parts are the same as the original, including marine brass, nickel silver, traditional natural agate line guards, and ivory handles. It comes in two colours: black and spitfire grey. You must specify either the left or right handle.
