TF Gear Airflow Bivvy Saves Time

An excited angler is an impatient angler, especially if you have to spend a lot of time lugging gear from your car to the bankside. Then of course there is the small matter of setting up a bivvy for the night before you even start rigging up your carp rods, baiting your swim and finally relaxing to enjoy an evening’s fishing. So anything that can reduce time and save you a bit of hassle is welcomed because it gives you, the angler, more time to focus on what you came for.

The advantages of a bivvy are significant: it will give you shelter from the wind and rain, shade from the sun and a place to sleep when fishing through the night. The goal is comfort. However carrying a bivvy, especially if it’s rather large, can be tiring; erecting the bivvy can be time consuming; accidents can happen and poles can get damaged - especially when you are in transit; rib slots (where you insert your bivvy poles) can get damaged or ripped; all this eats into your precious fishing time. So in light of these issues, TF Gear have changed the game with their very clever TF Gear Airflow Bivvy.

What Makes the Airflow Bivvy So Special?

In a nutshell, it’s pole free. Instead of inserting ribs or poles, the overall structure is supported using an inflatable pole system which comprise of ‘air-tubes’ which saves a huge amount to time. Naturally you may question if such a structure is stable, however these air poles are made from extremely resilient, puncture-proof resistant material and are strategically placed in optimal positions to ensure positive solidity when fully inflated. You simply lay out the bivvy as you would normally and insert the valve from the supplied air pump into the one of the air pole valves and inflate. The average inflation time is around one to one and a half minutes - yes you heard right! Off course you still have to peg the bivvy down but contrast this with the traditional method of inserting solid poles and you have an extremely fast method of getting a solid bivvy erected in no time. The advantage of quick inflation and bivvy erection means that if the weather on the day turns out to be less favourable, you have a quick and easy way to get yourself and your gear organised and quickly sheltered. It also allows you to set up your rods quickly and efficiently.

How Secure and Waterproof is the Airflow Bivvy?

Air poles in a bivvy are a novel ideal, ingenious even, however don’t be mislead into thinking that such a structure will not offer the solidity and protection you need for even the wildest of days. The bottom line is that the TF Gear Airflow Bivvy is perfect in all conditions - and yes, even strong wind. As long as the air poles have been fully inflated, the bivvy has been pegged down fully and with the addition of some para chord, this bivvy is going nowhere. It’s made from extremely durable nylon which has a waterproof rating of 8,000mm - most bivvys are around 5,000mm hydrostatic head. Hydrostatic head is the how tall a column of water can hold before water starts to seep through the material, so in the case of the Airflow Bivvy, it will take a water column of 8,000mm before it will permeate the fabric. That’s very high, so you can be confident that in torrential rain you will remain dry.

Technical Features

The Airflow Bivvy has been manufactured to the highest standards for the angler who demands the best performance, for the specialist who requires the toughest most reliable protection, and for those who need the fastest easiest erection possible. The door of the bivvy comes in three infill panel options - solid green, clear PVC and mozzie mesh. Naturally the solid green and PVC doors infills are totally waterproof so you can be confident in keeping totally dry in the foulest of wind and rain. The bivvy also has side windows which also come in solid green or mozzie options, so when the weather is a bit more favourable, using the mozzie option will give you excellent ventilation and the ability to see outside. The bivvy also comes with its own hard wearing groundsheet to protect you from bugs etc and adds a further layer of insulation from cold ground during cold evenings. The TF Gear Airflow Bivvy is available in one man and two man options. The one man is 290cm wide by 260cm in depth and 143cm in height. The two man is 335cm in width, 305cm in depth and 153cm in height.

Overall the TF Gear Airflo Bivvy is a clever piece of fishing kit that’s faster to erect than any other bivvy out there, is as waterproof and doesn’t require poles which are prone to breaking. And what goes up must come down therefore deflating and packing away saves even more time so you can get home sharply.
